Ausgangslage

The 9 de Julio thermal power plant is located in an old quarry, which emerged when rocks for the construction of the breakwaters of the city were extracted. The blasting of the rock left vertical slopes with a height of 20 meters - they show continuous rockfalls. A few meters from these slopes, there is a gas pipeline and a fuel oil pipeline feeding the boiler of this plant.

Geologie

Fragmented sandstone.

Massnahme

After several rockfalls events and with the aim of preserving the integrity of these gas and fuel oil pipelines, a protection system was implemented. The closest 30 linear meters of slope to these pipelines were intervened, installing a drape system.
