Between Baia Mare and Sighetul Marmației, the highway DN18 crosses a hilly area, rich in vegetation, with significant differences in level. In spring and seasons with heavy rainfall there is an increased risk of landslides. Therefore, it was decided to intervene in six areas within the project, with protective measures against rock falls or landslide prevention.
Versanți alcătuiți preponderent din roci vulcanice, cu grad de alterare mediu spre mare.
It was decided to install a high-performance protection and stabilization system in five areas.
As there were no indications of global stability problems, this was considered satisfying, so only surface instabilities were analyzed in the design calculations. For this purpose, Geobrugg's RUVOLUM® program was used. Also, partial safety coefficients according to EUROCOD 7 were applied. Depending on the geo-specific conditions of each area, the calculations resulted in the need for TECCO G45/2 and TECCO G65/3 systems, respectively, in combination with solid bar anchor rods Ø 25 - 28 mm.
In compliance with the relevant legislation, it was necessary to carry out tensile tests on three separate anchors for each zone to confirm the anchors' ability to transfer the forces resulting from the design calculations to the ground. In the last position of the project, a 500 kJ GBE 500A rockfall protection barrier (L= 70 m, H = 2.0 m) was ordered.
