Planned extensions to the sandstone, Gritstone quarry required the extraction of overburden. Materials had the potential to travel down the outer edge of the site, down to the A44 road.
Key Geosolutions undertook rockfall analysis and calculated that a 500kJ and 3 metres high rockfall system would be required.
Derbyshire Geotechnical contacted Geobrugg for advice on system types best suited for this location.
After an initial site visit, it was agreed that the GBE-500A would be the best option as the reduced post weight over that of the GBE-500A-R allowed for easier installation due to the limited access routes to the location.
The 100 m long system with post spacings of 10 m (11 posts) was secured with 2nr 4 m long threaded bars. Upslope and lateral anchors were 6 m long threaded bars fitted with Geobrugg flexheads.
