Initial situation

The Singapore Grand Prix is a motor race which forms part of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The event takes place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit and was the inaugural night race and first street circuit in Asia for F1 races.

After the contract extension with Liberty Media Singapore GP is looking to upgrade the existing facilities. One important upgrade is the pit building area and the pit wall fence.

Description

Geobrugg was commissioned to come up with a unique solution to replace the existing pit wall fence with the Geobrugg pit wall fence. The requirements were to use the existing pit wall barrier structure but develop a lighter pit wall solution than previousely used.

After an initial mock up installation which got inspected by Singapore GP, local authorities and Mr. Charlie Whiting, F1 race director, Geobrugg received the approval and the award to replace the pit wall fence.

The installation proved to be more lightweight in comparison to the previous installation and improved massively the view from the Paddock Club to the race circuit. Furthermore around 17 to 18% more light is reaching the circuit which is a huge impact for a night race.
