Initial situation

In June 2020, heavy rains caused numerous landslides in the hillside area of Turin. Particularly affected was the San Mauro Torinese area, where the river Rio Sant'Anna overflowed three times in less than 24 hours, forcing families to evacuate their homes.

Description

It was decided to act promptly with the removal of debris material, the installation of three debris-flow barriers and the construction of some cyclopean boulder weirs. This enabled a rapid return of the displaced families to their homes.

After the emergency interventions, the design firm Ingeoproject, under assignment from the municipality, designed and coordinated the successive works. It was decided to repeat the type of intervention already adopted under the emergency regime and to install eleven additional debris-flow barriers UX and VX 080 H4 and UX-100 H4 along the different rivers running through the township.
