Initial situation

As part of the rehabilitation work on the Montréjeau-Luchon railroad, the Cap du Mail tunnel needed to be reprofiled to allow the passage of the new trains, which are wider than the old ones.

Description

The new clearance profile for this 70-meter tunnel was achieved by cutting back the tunnel by an average of 20 cm. Subsequently, a safety system for future rail traffic was installed using a combination of rock bolts and MINAX mesh.
