Initial situation

At Giumella's crest in Southern Switzerland, there is a high risk of avalanches. Avalanches descend on the south and north sides towards the village of Rossa.

Description

Geobrugg delivered 19 SPIDER® Avalanche Dk 4.0 barriers to protect the south and north slopes.

The construction of the barriers took three years. The site is accessible only on foot or by helicopter. All material was brought and assembled by Heli Rezia, including containers for the installation crew with beds, water, sanitary facilities ... The total length of all barriers is 540 meters.

Weather conditions such as cold, snow, and wind made the installation challenging. The SPIDER® Avalanche barriers came into operation in mid-September 2019, shortly after installation.
