Overview of the construction site and it's complexity

Slope Stability - Serra do Espigão 2017

The whole slope was covered with nailed SPIDER® System minimizing, thanks to it's very open structure, visual impact

Initial situation

The BR 116 is an important road connecting South and North Brazil. At km 108, in the state of Santa Catarina, there is a stretch of a mountain range: high sandstone sections have conditioned instabilities of rock blocks since the road was built, with a sad history of accidents and interruptions of the road. In 2017, the concessionaire Arteris started the slope stabilization works to mitigate the risks to the highway.

Geology

The sandstone columns of the Pirambóia formation are based on extremely alterable lamitos. With the process of altering instabilities occur at these columns of a height up to 35 meters.

Description

30.000 m² of slopes with rockfall potential were stabilized with SPIDER® System.
