Initial situation

Following a re-appraisal of the existing landslide protection measures, it was determined that the existing SL-150 and catch pit were insufficient for the volumes and block energies expected in that area.

Description

Working with the geotechnical contractor Geo-Rope, their designer MHB and the client's framework design consultant drew up a solution with a large catch pit at the base of the slope and a customised Geobrugg barrier above the pit. The barrier was customised to have an “open” bottom, with a ring net drape being hung from the lower transmission ropes. The drape's function is to guide landslides and fallen blocks into the catch pit.
