In the area of the Hoher Stein, rockfall endangered the railroad line. The rock face directly next to the railroad line was secured with SPIDER® nets, the slope's remaining area with rockfall protection fences.
Approximately in the middle of the fence no. IV, the terrain required a bend of more than 30°. Usually, an intermediate suspension solves the problem. However, since the rockface adjacent to the fence almost vertically slopes to the Weisseritz River, a standard solution was impossible. A diagonal strut solved the problem. In this case, the outstanding features are the fence height of 5 meters and the absorption energy of the barrier of 1'500 kJ. The diagonal strut had to be adapted in length due to the terrain not to restrict the fence's function (flexible system). Because the site is difficult to access, the posts had to be flown in by helicopter.
