Year of installation

2022

Initial situation

The new Biobío railway bridge project in the city of Concepción included a new railway line with a tunnel through Chepe Hill. The portals of this tunnel had to be reinforced. The system designed for this reinforcement was shotcrete and 9 meters long anchor bolts.

Geology

Weathered granitic rocks of the coastal batholith (maicillo)

Description

Geobrugg was approached for a solution that reduces the intervention's visual impact and the reinforcement's carbon footprint. With these requirements in mind, Geobrugg proposed replacing the shotcrete with TECCO GREEN mesh, which has a lower carbon footprint and allows the portals to be revegetated.
