A dynamic barrier GBE-1000A at the foot of the rockface protects during the installations of the stabilization system.

Initial situation

Located in an old quarry, the Bakio wastewater treatment plant is surrounded by irregular, 50 meters high slopes. In the past, triple-twist mesh and bolts were installed as a stabilisation system. Due to the proximity of the sea, the system was damaged by corrosion. Also, the stabilization proved to be insufficient: Blocks of up to 30 tonnes came down - a constant threat for the workers.

Geology

Limestone

Description

The customer opted for a stabilization system with stainless steel mesh consisting of TECCO® STAINLESS G65/3, horizontal reinforcing wire ropes, and GEWI bars of 32 mm in diameter, 8 meters long, with 3Vx4H drilling pattern.

A dynamic rockfall barrier GBE-1000A (1,000 kJ), 4 m high and 110 m long, was installed to protect the WWTP facilities during the stabilization works.
