The access road to the power station was experiencing frequent rockfall in two sections. The solution required a system that attenuated the rockfall energy to a manageable level, was quick to install without rope access and required minimal future maintenance. The slope on average is approximately 50 degrees.
Two 30 meters wide attenuators (ATT-40) with a 3 meters high fixed post and a 10 meters tail were installed (13 meters total length). The ATT-40 fixed post system has no upslope support ropes which enabled the drilling and installation to be completed with telehandlers / hiabs which susequently reduced the exposure to the contractor. The ATT-40 utilises TECCO 80/4 as a primary mesh due its high uniform puncturing resistance, flexibility and small aperture not requiring a secondary mesh. Type IV flex heads were installed to connect the support ropes to the anchor bar. A bottom rope was supplied and recommended if increased rockfall attenuation was required after performance analysis with time.
