Impact Protection - Chimney blasting Moorburg 2024

The high-tensile steel wire mesh is particularly suitable for blast protection of irregular-shaped components. It was adapted to the elements of the base construction on site.

Initial situation

The Hamburg Energy Works GmbH had to create space for new infrastructure. As part of the decommissioning of the existing energy facilities, the chimneys of the former flue gas desulfurization plant were demolished.

The demolition company Hagedorn had to ensure that the existing infrastructure was protected from debris and splinters during the demolition.

Description

Extensive protective measures were necessary before the 2,300-ton and 130-meter-high chimneys fell onto the prepared fall bed. The two 20-meter-high supports that were demolished were entirely clad with debris protection mesh (TECCO® G65/4). A total of 770 m² of explosion protection mesh was installed.

The impressive demolition can be seen on the Hagedorn Unternehmensgruppe's YouTube channel.
