A bear gets fenced in – and is free like never before
For the summer season, we are reporting an event with a happy end: Trapped bears get a species-appropriate home, thanks to the sturdy fence from Geobrugg. Read here what makes this project so pleasant and at the same time so challenging.

A sanctuary for the bear – but safe
Arosa in the Grison Alps has created a sanctuary for bears that are not kept in a species-appropriate manner. It is a project that reconciles animal welfare with tourism.
In this topographically demanding terrain at a height of 2000 m, a solution had to be found for enclosing an area of 2.8 hectares with a fence. A solution that had to meet the demands of alpine conditions in winter with the snow pressure.
Highest level of difficulty
The terrain is steep, uneven and rough. This posed the highest level of difficulty for planning and realisation: Almost every one of the over 200 inclined supports had to be matched to the subsoil. Even so, hardly three months were needed until completion. This was made possible by the excellent cooperation between the resort management, the construction company and Geobrugg.
