Avalanche protective structures using wire rope nets as a substitute for rigid avalanche structures
Avalanche protective structures made of wire rope nets are a Geobrugg development and have stood the test since 1951 in various countries in and outside of
Europe
. These avalanche protective structures manufactured from rope nets and steel wire mesh, anchored to posts in the earth and at right angles to the slope, create a protective surface reaching up to the surface of the snow.
The protective surface causes a backing up retension effect that prevents the snow cover from possibly creeping and sliding over the surface of the ground. Avalanches are prevented from breaking away right at the outset, or else the snow movement that occurs is restricted to manageable quantities.
