Situazione iniziale

Following an exceptional rainfall event in November 2023, a mudslide mobilizing a volume of around 600 to 800 m³ reached and covered the rail track over a distance of more than 30 meters. As a result of this event, the railway line was interrupted and restricted for several months. The Mensolles slope had to be secured against the residual volumes of material that could potentially be remobilized following the event.

Descrizione

Geobrugg assisted the SNCF with the design and supervision of a 42-meter-long mudflow barrier.

The central part of the barrier was completed by a wide masonry ditch to channel the flow of almost permanent runoff water to a hydraulic structure at the track level.


The work was completed in spring 2024, and the temporary speed limits (LTV) in place on the Mensolles slope since December 2023 were withdrawn early in July 2024 before the summer season.
