Groenbach torrent, Merligen, Canton of Bern

Description

As part of a large-scale effort to protect Merligen, Canton of Bern from periodic flooding, the Groenbach creek was equipped with a debris flow protection system. Above the protection system there is a manmade retention area with a total capacity of approximately 12,000 m³ of debris and driftwood. The lower end of the area is enclosed by a debris flow barrier that is designed to retain solids but lets high water and small debris pass through.
