The G-94-F highway links Cartagena with other cities on the central coast of Chile. The highway passes an over 40-meter-high bridge. A rock separates the two lanes of the bridge. This large rock fractured, and the gap began to expand, threatening the infrastructure and, thus, the connection between the cities.
The company GESVIAL is responsible for keeping the rock stable and the road safe by installing a stabilization system to stop the expansion of the opening.
Today, the SPIDER® S3-130 system is stabilizing the rock.
The rock’s volume is 18 cubic meters and weighs about 50 tons. It appears stable and sound, with a 10 mm crack opening and an inclination angle of 45°. The rock has not shown movements.
The system was installed with drilling anchors, spike plates, cable anchors, steel cables, and connection accessories.
