On the South coast of Mauritius, at Maconde Cliff, a famous tourist attraction, many unstable rocks needed to be secured. The biggest problems were some major horizontal joints, weathered rocks and the presence of discontinuities along large rocks. The cliff is 30 metres high and 175 metres long with an inclination of 85 degrees.
After a site visit, we prepared a preliminary design proposal with the use of the RUVOLUM Tool.
To prevent slope failures and falling rocks several sections required an active and passive slope stabilization system. The active being the TECCO System and the passive one being the drape system.
Both systems used to stabilize the cliff were made from TECCO G65/3 stainless steel mesh.
