Geobrugg developed together with international experts an attenuator protection solution which can be efficiently dimensioned. This innovative rockfall protection is particularly suitable in large areas. The dimensioning concept was presented to experts in British Columbia/Canada at the end of August.

After wildfires stripped the hills bare of vegetation, torrential rains created significant debris flow events impacting and devastating homes. Geobrugg delivered material and Access Limited completed installation well ahead of the January 31st deadline. El Niño reached California the very next week and the Geobrugg barriers performed as designed.

On Saturday 5th December during storm Desmond that affected most parts of the UK a substantial landslide occurred at the A83 Rest and be Thankful. During the daytime an event estimated at 150m3 struck a Geobrugg SL-150 barrier, the barrier successfully held the event and there was no need to close the road.

On June 19 to 21, 2013, an intense rainstorm, combined with snowmelt, resulted in a debris flood that damaged infrastructure and developments located within the Cougar Creek alluvial fan area of the town of Canmore. Homes and lives in the Alberta mountain town were threatened when flood water turned the usually docile Cougar Creek into a raging river.

Geobrugg Security Engineering was asked to develop a solution to protect garages close to the track of the proving ground.

In addition to presentations by external experts in construction, installation, and research of rockfall protection solutions, there was a world premiere in the Swiss mountains: For the first time, a flexible rockfall protection canopy was revealed on Geobrugg AG’s test site in Walenstadt.

Known as a region prone to natural hazards, the Olympic venues in Sochi required protection from catastrophic events. From the beginning of construction, Geobrugg was involved. The geohazard protection measures installed are still in place today, and provide mitigation of debris flows, shallow landslides, slope instability, and falling rocks around Sochi’s infrastructure and Olympic sites.
