The Malshej Ghat is part of the Western Ghats in the Thane District of Maharashtra. The National Highway 222 connects Pune and Navi Mumbai with regional and national traffic.
Malshej Ghat encounters a lot of rainfall every year. The monsoon season also brings tourists who visit the resort atop the ghats for recreation.
The «Ghat» which means flank/range, is prone to soils getting washed out. Exposed slopes collapse on the road below, major accidents and road closing disrupt traffic and cause damages to life and property.
The Public Works Department (PWD) approached Geobrugg for a solution. According to the strata, Geobrugg's TECCO® and SPIDER® were installed to stabilize these slopes:
TECCO® at slopes that were primarily clayey and susceptible to collapse. SPIDER® on more rocky strata and larger areas, in combination with DELTAX® as a secondary mesh for catching smaller stones.
Anchors were drilled 5 to 6 meters deep.
Drilling and unrolling of the meshes were carried out with the help of cranes.
