Falling rocks were threatening the railway line. Access to this construction site is restricted to boats and rail.
The protection of this high risk rockfall zone was critical as this section of track is not monitored for rockfall and the first sighting of any rockfall would be by the train driver

Geobrugg designed and supplied an RXE-3000 rockfall barrier whit a total length of 214 meters.
All materials had to be delivered by barge as there was no road access, including all drilling equipment, barriers and 45 tonne all terrain crane.
The major works were completed on weekends with the full track closure and minor works completed during the week with the track remaining open.
Anchor setout, drilling, and footings were completed over a three day rail shutdown period.
All barrier posts and components were lifted into position during a second, three day shutdown. The barrier installation was then completed whilst the railway line was fully operational
