Situation de départ

The OKSRT Road in the north east of India near the Chinese border is of strategic importance. Because of erosion underneath the road it had become instable which prompted the Indian government to tender stabilization measures.

Géologie

Granitic gneiss, sandstone, and highly jointed and fractured quartzite
The area experiences relatively high rates of weathering due to complex and harsh climatic conditions, heavy rainfall, variable topography, and a complex drainage network. Also, physicochemical weathering favors the formation of the soil. The geotechnical behavior of the mountain soil is a function of parent rocks, topography, rainfall, and weathering. In this area, the soil is dominantly composed of stony particles derived from the parent rocks. These stony particles are rich in quartz since the rate of chemical weathering of quartz and mica is relatively slow compared to that of feldspar.

Description

The customer opted for a solution that combines high-tensile steel wire mesh and an erosion control mat. It protects against surface erosion and supports vegetation growth. The stabilization works started in 2019, respecting the monsoon season from July to September. The installation was completed in 2020 and made the road safe again.

More details of the installed solution:

  • Spike plates P33 with a grid pattern 2.0 x 2.0 m
  • Self drilling anchors, steel R32 of 6 meters length
