Before 2005, the German Bundesstrasse 305 (State Road) near Berchtesgaden (Bavaria) had to be closed partially or even entirely in winter. Icicles up to five meters long and one meter wide fell onto the road and endangered the traffic. For safety reasons, the road maintenance department checked the section several times a day. This effort prompted the authorities to look for a cost-effective solution.

The ice drape proves its effectiveness at high ice formation and also when ice masses that have grown through the mesh detach from the ground.
A total of 1'200 m² were secured, the maximum slope height is 30 m, slope inclination 70 ° - 90 °.
