Initial situation

Permanent mooring characterizes the Floating Gas Terminal, also known as FLNG and is a leading cause of injuries to marine workers.

To increase the safety and protect people on the platform from the risk of a snapback event or failure of a mooring line, it was decided to implement protection nets in different areas onboard the FLNG.

Description

During the construction phase of the Gimi FLNG terminal, we were asked to offer our Snapback Protection solution at various locations on the terminal, mid-ship spring lines, walkway, first deck.

The requirement was to integrate our solution into the already planned steel structure. Geobrugg was subsequently commissioned to realize the project during the planning phase, production, and installation on site.

It is worth mentioning that ours is the first validated solution against mooring line failure in maritime safety and prevents injury during a Snapback event.
