The cycle path along the southern shore of Lake Walen is threatened by falling rocks. An official hiking trail also runs alongside the bike path. So there are also a lot of pedestrians on the trail. The most dangerous sections are between Ofenegg and the Weisswand tunnel. This section is around 500 metres long. The main primary fall zones are the dozens of metre-high rock faces directly above the cycle path, as well as various rocky strips in the overlying steep forest.
A self-cleaning roof of mesh protects the cycling track: impacts up to 1000 kJ for stones and blocks, self-cleaning up to 500 kJ).
A special construction was used to attach part of the net roof to the highway gallery. Almost 300 meters long, it is currently (as of 2023) the longest net construction in Europe.
