After the devastating flood disaster in the Ahrtal in 2021, which destroyed large parts of the railway line, reconstruction is making visible progress. Protective measures have already been implemented to ensure the safe operation of the renewed line. Along the route, new rockfall barriers and large-scale slope stabilizations have been installed.

A key element is the new protection gallery above Altenahr station, which highlights the reconstruction progress and the importance of this infrastructure for the region. By the end of 2025, further work will be completed so that the railway can once again operate safely and reliably through the Ahrtal.
