Modern racing facilities or street race circuits face unique challenges. One of these unique challenges is space. The limitation of space requires circuit designers to come up with track designs with parallel racing lines, for example Joker lap for rallycross events or bi-directional racing for street race circuits. In the past two lines of concrete barriers were installed back to back.
In order to reduce the amount of barriers Geobrugg did cost engineer the circuit design and came up with the double sided concrete barrier design. The double sided concrete barrier is having two flat surfaces facing the race circuit. This adjustment of the concrete barrier does allow racing on both sides of the concrete barrier.
As a special requirement for World Rallycross two different barrier heights were required - 1m and 0.8m. The height change was needed in order to provide the drivers to have a look on the other lap to avoid crashing after the Joker lap.
