The exposed Seacliff below Flagstaff Lookout was frequently releasing rocks and small debris slides towards Beach Street and the adjacent port. A temporary shipping container barrier was installed for protection but a permanent solution was required.
A 4 metres high 96 metres long GBE-500A-R was installed to protect against the rockfall and debris hazard. A support rope separation halfway enabled split installation and easier maintenance. Several gap-fill kits were installed to provide cover in gullies and the fixed post system with no upslope ropes enabled the majority of the barrier to be constructed with an excavator, reducing the exposure and installation time. The mesh, posts and ropes were also powder-coated black to help the system blend into the natural environment.
