Beaver Creek - Canal Protection

Engenharia Hidráulica - Beaver Creek - Canal Protection 2024

The mesh in the ditch allows the beavers to continue living in their habitat along the creek while protecting the dam.

The first step was to create a 1.5-meter-deep trench along the base of the dam. The mesh was then placed in the trench.

After the mesh was installed, the trench was backfilled and re-vegetated.

Situação inicial

Beavers inhabit a creek that runs along a dike. Their digging activities had endangered the dike’s stability in several places.

Descrição

To ensure the dam’s stability, the beavers’ activities had to be restricted, and existing passages had to be filled in. For this reason, mesh (DELTAX G80/2 STAINLESS) was vertically integrated into the dam at a depth of 1.30 meters. This still allows beavers to create burrows in front of the sealed-off area and maintain their habitat. So, the dam body behind the mesh doesn't protect it.
