Situation
In 2017, after alluvial events, rockfalls threatened the C489. This route goes from Alto del Carmen and San Felix to the Route 495 between Alto del Carmen and El Transito in the III Region of Atacama.
The Ministry of public works MOP initiated the contract for the conservation of the route and the reduction of the potential risk. It meant to improve slopes, the construction of bridges and general the maintenance of both roads.
The measures had to ensure the safety of the users of the route, most of them working in agriculture in the Huasco Valley.
Description
Geobrugg evaluated the slopes and recommended a rockfall protection with QUAROX® and DELTAX® mesh. The installation guides falling rocks towards the base of the slope where there is easy access for cleaning.
