The heavy rains of December 2019 affected the railway platform of Line 130 Venta de Baños-Gijón, Section: La Robla and La Pola de Gordón. The rail track's major damage was at km 26/700, where large rocks fell from the rock face above. The rock face is about 45 meters high; boulders came down the slope underneath - about 300 m to the railway platform. One of these rocks of approximately 50 t went over the track. It only stopped at the edge of Puente de Alba's main street (León). Several other rocks, weighing just under 10 tons, also came down next to the track. For this reason, Spanish railway administrator ADIF decided to install a dynamic barrier and a rock guidance system to protect the users of this heavily frequented railway line.
A dynamic barrier RXE-8000, 8 m high and 150 m long, was installed. This barrier is certified according to EAD EAD-340059-00-0106-2018 and therefore has European Technical Assessment and CE marking. Also, it is certified according to Swiss regulations.
In addition, 6,800 m² of TECCO® G65/3 high yield strength steel wire mesh was installed as a rock guide curtain. The mesh is certified according to EAD-230025-00-0106 and is CE marked.
RXE-8000: Energy absorption capacity: 8,000 kJ, system height: 8 m, system length: 150 m
TECCO® Drape: Slope height: 45 m, slope inclination: 80°, exposure: Southwest
