In cooperation with experts, a decision was taken in the community of Arosa at the end of 2016 to create a more species-appropriate outdoor enclosure for bears living in captivity.
Geobrugg was first contacted in February 2017: A fence had to be built for the 2.8 hectare site. Since the enclosure is located at an altitude of around 2,000 m above sea level, the fence had to withstand the pressure of snow in particular. Another challenge was the steep and uneven terrain.

Geobrugg created a fence that - in addition to the snow pressure - meets various requirements. The facts:
- 1 km fence, 800 m outside and 200 m inside
- Fence height 2,8 m
- 5'500 m² net for fence and undermining protection
- 12 km rope in different versions
- 235 steel supports (over 50 tons)
- 2 gates
- 15 small animal openings
- Mounts for electricity: bears inside, pasture fences outside
- Mesh made of high-tensile 3 mm steel wire, mesh size 80 mm
