Join us for a one-day workshop at The Eliza Jane in New Orleans, Louisiana where experts will present real-world examples of effective erosion control strategies. We’ll explore innovative solutions for managing erosion in both coastal and river environments, offering practical insights and successful case studies.

Speakers and Topics:

Mahan Sheibani

-Technical Manager for Coastal Erosion Solutions at Geobrugg UK
-Leads the development of innovative coastal protection strategies
-Holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Bath
-Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, working towards chartered status

Presentation topic: Geobrugg’s TECCO Cell technology, including an installation at Beesands, CO2 studies, and design exercises

Jay R. Smerekanicz, PG, CPG

-Senior Engineering Geologist at Scarptec, Inc., a Massachusetts-based rock engineering solutions provider
-Specializes in rock slope design and mitigation, rock excavation, blasting support, rockfall modeling, rock mechanics, structural     geologic mapping, bedrock foundation design, construction vibrations, geophysics, mineralogy, and hydrogeology
-Regularly publishes research for applied case studies at professional geologic and geotechnical conferences

Presentation topic: A successful scour remediation project in New York state, featuring the creative use of Spider and Tecco mesh. 

Dr. Ning Luo

-Assistant professor in civil engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
-Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering from Queen’s University
-Research interests: Coastal Erosion, Offshore Geotechnics, Extreme Climate Events, Field Instrumentation, and Monitoring
-Member of multiple professional organizations, including the Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics Committee (SUT-OSIG-US) and Nearshore Extreme Events Reconnaissance (NEEN)

Presentation topic: Texas Coastal Management Plan, current coastal protection, and erosion status on the Texas coast
