Full Barrier Verification: Insights from the WSL Report and Field Rockfall Testing

Riscos naturais

The European standards ETAG 027 and EAD 340059 define unified test methods for rockfall barriers—but real events often go far beyond these standardized conditions. Natural rockfalls involve complex movements with irregular shapes, rotation, and multiple impacts that are not fully reflected in current testing approaches.

To better capture these effects, Geobrugg and WSL developed extended field tests. The MEL-S and MEL-E tests simulate both centred and off-centre impacts, providing a more realistic understanding of how barriers perform in the field.

This webinar presents the findings of the WSL Report and shows how these insights influenced the development of the new ROCCO barrier. Participants will gain a clearer view of how real-world testing leads to more reliable protection—and why it's time to rethink how we evaluate rockfall systems.

One Weak Link Can Break It All — Is Your System Still Safe?

en

Protective structures are only as strong as their weakest part. Whether for rockfall, debris flow, or avalanche protection. Flexible systems rely on the flawless condition of all components—nets, posts, brake elements, and every connection in between.

Environmental exposure leads to wear, corrosion, and hidden damage over time. Without proper inspection, safety quietly deteriorates. In this webinar, you'll learn how structured inspection and life cycle management help keep your systems effective for the long term.

Based on real case studies, we’ll show how to identify critical wear, manage spare parts and upgrades, and understand the impact of corrosion through laboratory analysis. Stay in control of your infrastructure—so you can sleep well knowing your protection system is intact.

Ecrans déflecteurs (Attenuator) et écrans déviateurs (Canopy) 2023

Riscos naturais
fr

Anchoring of flexible natural hazard protection systems

Riscos naturais
en

The webinar «Anchoring of flexible natural hazard protection systems» aims at planners and project owners of natural hazard protection systems as well as at contractors who are involved in decisions around the anchoring of protection systems.

Anchoring is a vital part of all flexible natural hazard protection systems. The anchor forces are well known, and their determination is regulated by the EAD for «falling rock protection kits» or by the EAD for «flexible kits for retaining debris flows and shallow landslides / open hill debris flows». Producers of rockfall barriers and other flexible structures can hence provide these forces to the designer. The decision of how to anchor those forces is, however, very dependent on the underground and is usually left to the designer or geotechnical engineer. Besides the anchor length also the choice of the anchor type and foundation type and dimension is important.

With this webinar, we want to give you an overview of how anchor forces are determined, of possible anchoring systems and a review of experience with different anchoring systems.

Slope stabilization & corrosion protection – Design and Experience

Riscos naturais
en

The webinar is aimed at designers and project owners who are involved in rock or soil slope stabilization.
Instable rock and soil slopes are often posing a hazard to infrastructure and people. Flexible facings with high tensile steel wire mesh have over the last twenty years become a standard solution for a green and cost-effective stabilization of slopes.

In this webinar, we explain important aspects of dimensioning and corrosion protection of flexible facings and show a variety of different reference projects from all around the world.

We look forward to welcoming you to this webinar and knowledge exchange.

Smart barriers and predictive maintenance

Riscos naturais
en

This webinar is aimed at contracting authorities, operators of protection systems and designers who consult project owners.

For inspections of flexible protective structures against natural hazards, there are specifications on the one hand from manufacturers, on the other hand from standards and practical aids. Despite country-specific differences, the basic principles regarding responsibility and inspection intervals are similar in most countries.

However, these specifications pose challenges in terms of effort (costs) and feasibility in the various topographies, and there is often a lack of resources to implement them correctly. New integrated electronic monitoring solutions make it possible to make the inspection process more economical while complying with regulatory and supplier specifications.

The webinar describes existing specifications, how they are applied in practice, and how inspection management can be implemented in a resource-efficient manner using GUARD.

CO2-Fussabdruck von TECCO-Böschungsstabilisierungen

Riscos naturais
de
