The area affected is a natural thalweg bordered by several rocky outcrops and steep, forested slopes. The incision of the thalweg at the slope and lower bars shows that water flows through the area occasionally, and sometimes in large quantities.
The site had already been secured, with rockfall protection installed on the upper slopes. However, because the area remains highly active, these protections have been repeatedly damaged and partially destroyed.
During the summer of 2022, several stones reached the road. In addition, a section of the rockfall barrier—already filled to its limit—was at risk of failing. If that had happened, approximately 50 m³ of detached stones and boulders would have been very likely to reach the road.

The solution was to install a reinforced ATT deflector at the bottom of the thalweg, just upstream of the road. This structure slows down falling rocks and guides them into the drainage system beneath the road.
Two support ropes, each spanning an impressive 53 meters, were anchored directly into the rock on both sides. Because substantial impacts were expected, a double layer of SPIDER S4‑130 netting was installed.
