The stretch of embankment in question was long since subject to erosion problems because of the presence of nonlinear stretches in correspondence with the material removal, in case of signifi cant fl ows. This involved problems of poor stability for the road above and for the buildings that were immediately behind.
The TECCO® choice by the design engineer was made for various reasons of which we should mention the high-tensile steel wire TECCO® mesh unit (high tensile 1770 N/mm2); the special anticorrosive treatment with aluminium-zinc alloy (GEOBRUGG SUPERCOATING); and the high bearing resistance of the mesh, by applying tension to it with the penetration of the special TECCO® cuspate shaped plates for the distribution of the anchorage loads in the bank's soil. These elements guaranteed by the TECCO® System are not present in the traditional bank protection method with gabions. Furthermore, the
particularly fast timeline for the implementation of the TECCO® System played a major part given that the work was done late in the season.
