Removal of a 16,000 lb rock block
Geovert developed a methode to remove the boulder without any damage to the existing infrastructure located in the fall line directly below the block - escalators, and entrance to the Visitors Center Building.
Opis zastosowanego rozwiazania
- Installation of a temporary GBE-1000A rockfall barrier - 4 meters high (rock face connections on both sides).
- A section of DELTAX® mesh was installed over the boulder, the boulder was drilled, and expansive grout was used to downsize the boulder into manageable blocks.
- After cracking the boulder with grout, the resulting blocks we scaled into the mesh/barrier in controlled operations. Once in the rockfall barrier, rock and debris were lowered to the ground and removed.
