Geobrugg installation of rockfall protection and slope stabilization in Prickly Pear Canyon

Geobrugg in the “perfect defile”

12 Agosto 2015

Prickly Pear Canyon guarantees excitement not only for geologists: The vibrant red and green mudstones contrast with the magnificent white cliffs of Madison Limestone. They make this area a unique wonder of nature.
This geologically interesting place also creates rockfall hazards along I-18 where various Geobrugg protection systems are being installed. Hi-Tech Rockfall Construction is installing over 300,000 sq. ft. of Geobrugg’s TECCO® mesh as rockfall drape and rolled cable nets as attenuator. This results in falling rocks being guided in a controlled manner between the mesh and rock face into a catch zone. In addition, 660 linear feet of GBE-1000A rockfall barrier are being constructed. These protection systems are being stained allowing them to blend in with the extraordinary scenery and colors of the rocks.

Local TV station KRTV reported on the start of construction works. For the complete story, click here.
