On October 12, 2014, the first Formula One Grand Prix took place in Sochi, Russia. The 65’000 spectators were well protected from any race car casualties on the circuit by Geobrugg protection fences.

In total, 40’000 m2 security fences were built along the race track in Sochi by installing Geobrugg Panelized Debris Fence, Geobrugg Debris Fence and Pit Wall Fence. "We are proud that the project proceeded without any problems, and we received a great many positive feedback as well as a big media response" says Jochen Braunwarth, Project Manager Geobrugg Motorsport Fencing.

Fans could get a first glimpse at the race track on a shakedown cruise by Sebastian Vettel – with the ready installed debris fences of Geobrugg of course: Sebastian Vettel gives his first impressions of the Sochi Formula One Track secured by Geobrugg.
