Several rock cuts were made to construct this reservoir to obtain the necessary geometry for the reservoir and access roads. The generated slopes imply a challenge in terms of natural risks since they are mainly composed of fractured rock. It generated a series of low-energy and high-frequency landslides, which blocked the access roads, risking the operation of the reservoir.
To solve these problems and mitigate risks on the most critical slopes, a rockfall attenuator (ATT-40) was installed. The attenuator mitigates low-energy rockfall from different small streams on the slope and guides them safely to the foot of the slope. In addition to the attenuator, a double curtain mesh (QUAROX, without picture) was installed in another sector of the reservoir’s access road.
