Most important Hindu pilgrimage site finally safe

13 Dicembre 2017

Vaishno Devi is the most important Hindu temple in India, thousands of pilgrims come to this shrine every year. The pilgrims walk on a serpentine path towards the temple, which is situated high up in the Himalya mountains, for miles and miles. In the past they were exposed to a great danger of falling rocks until the decision was made to secure the up to 70-metre-high steep slopes at the most exposed places. A whole series of Geobrugg systems have been providing considerably more safety for a good year now: A total of 8,000 m² of nets and meshes are now actively stabilizing the embankments. 15 systems against rockfall from 3000 to 8000 kJ also protect the footpath to the sacred site. See here and here details and impressive pictures of this project.
