At the project site, a retention basin was required to improve hydroelectric efficiency and reduce flood risk, while ensuring compliance with environmental standards (Natura 2000).
Part of the work involves preparing the Zečevo sinkhole site, situated adjacent to a steep, karstified rock slope (up to 65°) composed of unstable limestone and dolomite. This slope is prone to sudden rockfalls due to the combined effects of gravity, weather, vegetation, and vibrations from heavy machinery, posing significant risks to workers and equipment.
To mitigate these risks during construction, a temporary GBE-500A rockfall protection barrier system has been installed. This barrier provides a secure shield against falling rocks, ensuring the safety of workers and machinery.
