The importance of field testing
1 Septiembre 2022, 05:00 - 07:00 / Wellington, NZ

The NZGS Wellington Branch is excited to host an in-person event to reconnect the geotechnical community of the lower North Island. At the event, Stu Mason will hold an exciting presentation on the importance of field testing, followed by plenty of time for networking. The NZGS Wellington Branch and we from Geobrugg hope that you can join us, and look forward to seeing everyone in person on 1 September at the Engineering New Zealand office.

The event is kindly sponsored by Geobrugg, and hosted by Engineering New Zealand.

Presentation abstract:

Geobrugg’s impact protection field testing began in the 1970’s and has come a long way since. The evolution has been driven by the requirement to replicate real life impact events to understand the physics and proof the systems which protect our assets. Geobrugg are world leaders in impact protection and we have a strong belief that there is no substitute for 1:1 field testing. The presentation summarises the evolution of field testing and includes lots of interesting test videos from the 1970’s through to now.

Speaker bio:

Stu Mason (NZ Manager – Geobrugg) is an Engineering Geologist with over 10 years’ experience in passive and active rockfall mitigation. He started his professional career assisting with the initial 2011 Christchurch earthquake recovery. He then moved on to geotechnical roles in several Australian underground and open pit mines. In 2017 he joined the Geobrugg team and has since managed the Geohazards division in New Zealand. Since joining Geobrugg Stu has had significant exposure to the majority of New Zealand's rockfall protection systems, in particular the Kaikoura recovery with the highlight being the construction of the self-cleaning canopy.
