TECCO® Slope Stabilization

Year of installation

2006

Initial situation

Prior to the 1977 Surface Mining Act, coal refuse was dumped along the sides of hill slopes or into hollows without compaction or attention to drainage control or erosion. Over time, these slopes can significantly displace and fail. At an abandoned mine lands site in West Virginia, there was an unstable slope consisting of mine refuse and also a masonry stone block wall that was failing.

Subsoil:
Basalt
Residual soil/coluvium

Geology

mine refuse

Description

Today, anchored TECCO G65-3mm mesh stabilizes the unstable mine refuse slope and the stone wall. The anchors were installed through the failing wall into the stable surface.
