5 landslide and 4 debris flow barriers - the first barriers in Africa

Safety of a panoramic route around South Africa's Cape

2 May 2016

Intense rainfalls are well known at Chapman's Peak Drive near Capetown. In November 2013 they resulted even in a shutdown of the road for two weeks: A 600 meter section of mountain slope, resulting in severe rock debris and mudslides wreaked havoc on the drive. Today there are five landslide and four debris flow barriers - the first in Africa. Read more about this project in our project database.
