The site is an abandoned quarry next to the new Orehovica Interchange at Rijeka's entrance.
Instability was most pronounced on the left flank of the quarry slope, where three benches, each about 10 meters high, became unstable. As a result, rockfall activity subsequently reached the local road situated below the quarry.
After recognizing the risks posed by these events, Hrvatske Autoceste (Croatian Highways) decided to stabilize the rock slope to mitigate the hazard and prevent larger rockfalls that could impact the new interchange infrastructure.
Solution included securing the steep rock slope with TECCO G65/3 mesh over an area of 3042 m². The slope consists of three benches, totaling 30 meters in height.
