Initial situation

The heavy rains of December 2019 affected the railway platform of Line 130 Venta de Baños-Gijón, Section: La Robla and La Pola de Gordón. The rail track's major damage was at km 26/700, where large rocks fell from the rock face above. The rock face is about 45 meters high; boulders came down the slope underneath - about 300 m to the railway platform. One of these rocks of approximately 50 t went over the track. It only stopped at the edge of Puente de Alba's main street (León). Several other rocks, weighing just under 10 tons, also came down next to the track. For this reason, Spanish railway administrator ADIF decided to install a dynamic barrier and a rock guidance system to protect the users of this heavily frequented railway line.

Description

In addition, 6,800 m² of TECCO® G65/3 high yield strength steel wire mesh was installed as a rock guide curtain. The mesh is certified according to EAD-230025-00-0106 and is CE marked.
