Fortifying a protection wall. Problem: Only a sound barrier protected a high-speed intercity rail section running parallel to a freeway; therefore it was not safeguarded against automobile accidents and possible penetrations by vehicles and their loads. Special requirements: The existing sound barrier required massive reinforcement but could only be marginally changed in appearance. The conversion work moreover was to take place without closing the freeway to traffic and was to be performed on the roadside. Geobrugg’s answer: With a lightweight ROMBO net barrier it was possible to strengthen the existing wall without interrupting freeway traffic and without infringing the freeway clearance.
